Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.
(I could have written this song)
We were at Primary Children's hospital again last night.
With Nathan.
YIP !
When we were called back to our room as I passed by the nurse's station the nurse who wrapped his leg Thursday recognized me and said.."hey. What's going on now ?" She followed us back to our room and gave me the courteous, "oh no, poor guy" talk and gave us extra attention and me a cup of ice water. (I was parched)
That's never a good sign when they start to recognize you....and they do...at the peds office and now the hospital.
He screamed ALLLLLLL night and then ALLLLLLLL day yesterday.
I took off his splint thinking it was too tight.
I gave him Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hours and even a dose of the lortab to see if it would help.
I put anbesol on his gums.
He was BESIDE himself, still.
When J got home I decided to run him in to after hours because he did have a fever of 101-102 and I thought he might have an ear infection. and what kind of mom would I be if I didn't get it checked just in case he needed antibiotics which would stop the crying and help me sleep. I mean help him sleep.
The doctor looked in his ears. clear. said his throat was a little red and swabbed him for strep. negative. aaaaaaaaaaand...all together now : Tylenol and motrin every 4 hours.
FUUUUUUUUCK !
I brought him home. He was SOOOOO sick. He's a pretty tough kid...I mean...he has a broken leg for the love of God and you wouldn't know it. He was not doing so good.
J relieved me while I went and visited with my neighbor and collected my children. When I got home 40 minuts later, his fever was now at 104. He was acting lethargic and his eyes were kind of rolling back when he'd close his eyes. He wasn't crying any more and his glands in his neck were as big as his fists.
I called after hours. "hee hee, I was just there and you said to give him Tylenol. and now what seemed to be just a virus has now attacked his head mainly around his neck area and I don't think that tylenol/motrin is gonna cut it"
After hearing that his temp was 104 they directed me not to their offices but to the Children's hospital. I asked if they were concerned about his neck and they said no...just the tempurature combined with his age.
I hate panicking but I panicked. I had this rush of adrenaline run through my blood and memories of Spencer's casual trip to the ER that turned dangerously close to tragedy filled my head. (guess what room we ended up in. YIP. same room as Spencer)
When I walked in, the waiting room was FILLED to the brim with sick and bleeding kids.
FABULOUS !
4 hours later the doctor told me that he might have some infection that needs to be drained. They wouldn't do a CT scan yet as his fever broke and he was acting better. but gave him a heavy dose of antibiotics and said to see the doctor tomorrow (today) and follow up with her. If it got worse or didn't go away we'd need to have him sedated and have it drained.
THE GOOD NEWS IS........he gave me the green light to keep his splint off until his appointment tomorrow. (poor fuckin kid)
He's in heaven and smells so good after having a bath.
This poor kid has had a circ revision, fevers off and on for 3 weeks, he's teething, a broken leg, and now this.
Good hell ! I won't say it. I won't utter the words..."what next" but you just know that I'm thinking them.
**updated**
we went to the doctor today (our follow up) he was 100.7, MISERABLE and now apparently he's sportin' an ear infection.
I'm going to pick up his little body and hold him for the rest of the day and kiss his face off and tell him for the umpteenth time how sorry I am that he's been so sick.
It's 70 degrees today. A few more days like today and I won't be talking about sick kids any more. How fun for all of us.
"orange" ya glad that's over with. :)
First. what they mean when they say, it got to the "ugly cry". :)
more tears
......and still
Cam-man trying to make Nathan happy. Such a sweety.
Happier times. (you can kind of see Nathan's neck swelling up a little in this picture) I was fake sneezing with all my gusto to get them to smile in this picture.
