Tina surprised me today when I came home from work with a note on the door that said, "Welcome Home! Here's to the START of New Family Traditions!" and when I walked in the house Christmas music was playing and there was a Christmas tree and holiday decorations all over the house. Spencer was SO excited to see me. I could tell he was in on the surprise! There were two more post it notes for me to read...and Tina was no where in site. Then I thought she might be hiding. I read the post it note that was stuck in between two pair of Christmas slippers that said, "Make yourself comfortable and put a pair of these on!" Then another note was stuck to a Christmas cookie jar that said, "I'll be home soon, I'm picking up dinner for us!" What a surprise. I'm the worst secret keeper..I can't believe she pulled that off. It made me cry. So sweet. And the music...it was all so overwhelming. I felt so happy. My dogs were happy too! I went upstairs and took a shower and got in comfy clothes. I actually put on this shirt one of my students made. She did the illustration of Jesus on this neon green shirt for her church and insisted that I have it. She was such a sweet girl and such a devout Catholic. I told her that I couldn't take the shirt she made, because I thought she needed to keep it for memory sake, but she assured me that she had one for herself. So cute. So every time I wear it I think of my sweet little brace faced thick bottle cap glasses wearing student and her big heart. That's one of the special things about being a teacher....:) Anyway, I went downstairs and called Tina and told her how much her surprise meant to me. She told me that she was coming home and that we were going to decorate the tree together after we ate dinner. So we did. It was fun. We're a real family now. :)
