Everybody wants to be a Cat !!

Today was Syd's dance recital.
I will start you out by preempting the actual recital with dance class.
She has been going to dance class since she was almost 3 years old.
We started in January. Syd is the youngest in her class and it shows.
She likes to play and while doing a spin can become sidetracked by a shadow on the wall :) YA !
They have been learning their recital piece for the last month or so. Syd WOULD NOT do it. Every week I would take her in....she would do everything Ms. Lori asked her to do (with the occasional wondering off) and then when it came time to do the dance she would.....look for her stickers that fell off of her leotard, or turn in circles repeatedly, or just keep jumping up and down even though that particular part of the dance was over.
I tried to get her to do it at home. NOT having it. I told her how excited her Papa and Grandma were going to be to come and see her. STILL, not doin' it.

We dolled her up. Costume on, ears in place. Grandma and Papa sitting with program in hand. The lights go down, the dances start. Her dance routine is #3. I KNEW in my heart she wouldn't stand there and cry. I just didn't know if she would run around....try and find her Papa, or push the other girls and cause chaos on the stage. My stomach was in knots. PLEASE don't let her push anyone (I prayed)

Her friend Cassie is the leader. She's 5 and a seasoned dancer :) She knew the routine and was the one in charge of marching everyone on stage. Cassie marched....stopped too soon as her eyes caught a glimpse of the audience. STAGE FRIGHT SET IN. The music is still going. Syd..turns where she is and..toe,toe,cat scratch...tippy toe turn...shake your tail. Repeat. jump out, jump in, jump out, jump in...turn. Repeat.
Cassie started to do the routine. Several of the girls did the dance...everyone was doing their own thing for the most part. AND THEN THE RUNNING...they galloped in a train around the stage and off. (except the little down syndrome girl...who did the dance, she just crawled off the stage:)..so cute) Everybody cheered. They brought down the house. It was SO GREAT !

SHE DID THE WHOLE DAMN DANCE !!! She did it all.
We BEAMED ! We were SO PROUD of her. My mom said, "I guess she just needed a bigger audience !"
Oh hell...that's all she needs.

Here are some pictures of her getting ready for the big production. Such a good sport.

Rollers are a girls best friends

"mommy, what are you putting on my cheeks ?"
