The day Carly turned 18 months, baby center sent us a note saying that some babies are ready to try the potty, so we went to the store and got a cute little princess potty! Before going into the bath right before bed, Tina and I took the potty out of the box and showed it to Carly. Carly was so curious about it she wanted to try it right away. She started playing with the toilet paper like she was wiping. Then she wanted me to go out of the bathroom. She closed the door. I wasn't sure if I should let her be alone in the bathroom, but the music came on from the potty which meant she peed! BIG GIRL!
I spoke to Carly's daycare provider about potty training. Miss A warned us to not pressure her to use it. She told us that Carly's a little on the young side for potty training.
So, the next night we asked Carly if she wanted to use the potty and she didn't want to. I tried to set her on the seat and she wouldn't let me put her on it. So, I sort of forgot about it for a couple of days. Until tonight, when I took her into the bathroom to give her Zyrtec, she said, "PEEPEE!" I asked her if she wanted to go peepee on the potty and she seemed interested. I took off her clothes and set her on the potty. She closed the door again for privacy. Tina came in and I told her what was going on. We listened closely. We couldn't hear anything so we asked, "All done Carly?" She didn't say anything. Next thing we hear is the MUSIC from the Potty! We opened the door and saw Carly sitting on the potty trying to wipe. Carly didn't peepee, she POOPED in the potty! We cheered for her and told her she did a great job! She was very excited! We dumped her potty out in the toilet and asked her if she was all done. Apparently she wasn't because she pushed the door closed again and the music came on again! This time she peed! We are thinking GENIUS child!!!! :) I'm going to see if she'll try it first thing in the morning. She's a little grumpy in the morning, so she might not be up for it, but she always has a very full bladder in the morning.
We had such a great weekend. Our bffs came to visit and spent the night. Carly loved showing off her new playroom! The girls had a great time together. We put the Packnplay next to Carly's crib and they loved it. It was like a slumber party!
Then we had a Halloween Party to go with the neighborhood Halloween Bash Saturday. It was fun. Our neighbors gave us an official invite this year that said we could invite whoever we wanted, so we invited our favorite lesbian families from family playgroup. It was awesome! We didn't stay long, but we had a blast. We were all bees again. Next year we'll do something different.
PS. Friday was the homecoming parade and I rode in the GSA truck and the gsa adviser drove, while our kids stood in the bed of the truck cheering "GSA TODAY!" They are so adorable. The gsa adviser told my principal that I am gay, like I asked. He told her that I don't want to make a big deal about it, but I just want to be myself. My principal was very supportive and said that she totally got it. Pretty soon everyone will know at my school that I am gay. With that said, tonight Tina, Carly, and I took the dogs for a walk on the boardwalk and I saw another teacher from my school with her family. I see her everyday at school. We're not friends but we always say hi. So, what do I do? I pretend I don't see her and Tina and I strategically walk a different way so we don't have to say hi. What's wrong with me? I should have marched my same sex family right up to her and introduced them.
