You know if you do that, your face will stay like that.

Sydney has had a headache for the last couple of days.
After reading her books and turning the light off, I laid down next to her. She was so happy and turned to me and asked "you are laying with me?"
"Yes, for a minute."
Face to face she began playing with a small group of hair on the top of her head. Something she's done since she was born....only before she had hair it was my hair she twirled. :)
It was dark but I could still make out her facial features and the whites of her eyes helped give the details and position of her pupils.
She crossed her eyes and I gave a courtesy, it's time for bed, you are cute, I love you so I have to laugh, laugh.
She did it again. and I didn't want it to go on and on and turn in to silly time so I said, "doesn't it give you a headache when you go cross-eyed like that ?"
She confidently replied, "no." and then paused briefly..was reminded of the headache she'd had and responded, "well maybe"
That made me laugh.
She likes to make me laugh and started in with the lines like, "your armpit is stinky under there. You don't have enough babies so you need to play with dolls"
I said, "Syd, you don't even need to try....you are funny naturally"
She says, "I know. I'm a crack up"
That was that, she pulled her covers under her chin....put her hand on my head and rubbed it down my cheek resting it in the middle of my back and closed her eyes.

Of course she didn't go to sleep....she needed water, to go to the bathroom and was hot...no cold...no hot.
But it's these little moments in time that I want to remember. Her sweet shadowed face and her gentle little hand.
So here I write at 12:15 am so that I don't forget.
